Savanna 1 mo old pics

The director of the adoption agency returned from Guatemala with pictures of Savanna (see "Album").

Savanna looks healthy and happy with her foster mom. I love the picture that shows Savanna looking adoringly into her foster mother's face. I think it will be hard for her foster mom to separate from her when the time comes. I hope she can stay in Savanna's life forever. They have shared a very special part of life together. Of course, I can't wait to provide Savanna the same sense of love and security that she is currently getting. May Savanna always know that she was loved by her bio mother, who sought the option of adoption ouf of her love for her, her foster mother who cared for her and loved her as her own, and her adoptive mother (ME) who will love, raise, guide her until "death do us part" :)

I haven't received information about Savanna's medical history but she looks fine. I noticed in a couple of the pictures she's having a bit of a problem focusing her eyes. I think this is pretty normal for a newborn. I remember one of my professor's in undergrad mentioning focusing problems up until 5 mos of age.

This month Savanna had her ears pierced. This seems to be a very big deal, some kind of rite of passage for little girls in Latin America. In several of the pictures the foster mother is showing off Savanna's little ears. I probably would have waited until she was a bit older to get them pierced because it hurts when you clean their ears with alcohol. In my view, the less pain for a small baby the better. At any rate her ears look great as well as the rest of her.

I just can't wait to meet Savanna. I love getting the pictures but they don't tell me what she likes, doesn't like, her personality, what makes her happy, and what makes her sad. I sure wish I could be with her now. Only a few more months....

Savanna, you are in my thought's and prayers daily. My love for you grows and grows. I can't wait for the day when I will be part of your life. I hope the transition will be an easy one for you.

Savanna- 1 month Old

Today is Savanna's 1 month old birthday. The waiting time is getting harder and harder. I dream of the day when I can hold her in my arms.

I wonder what she is doing right now. I hope she is meeting all of her developmental milestones.

I should be receiving new pictures of her next week. I'll keep you posted.

Week-end Project

This week-end's project involved hand painting and hanging pictures.  The paintings match the pictures in Savanna's comforter. I used the same paint for the pictures that I used to paint her chest. I sealed the canvas with "Gesso" and painted over it. I hung the pictures with pink ribbon and used a glue gun for the little flower on the bow.  I hung the pictures above her crib to add a bit of color in the room. You can view a picture of them in the "album" section on the right  side of the blog site.

My sister, Karen, and brother-in-law, Darryl came down for a visit this week-end. Karen and I picked out  really cute material to make a doll for Savanna. I wanted the doll to have a Guatemalan look with soft textures so Savanna can snuggle with it. I can't wait for her to complete it. Karen guarantees me it will be done by the shower date.

I'm having second thoughts about including  "Edna" in Savanna's name. My mom has convinced me that her mother, Edna, wouldn't care if Savanna wasn't named after her. I'm going with Savanna Carolina (sounds like "Carolena"). Darryl tries to convince me to name the baby "Darrylina". That has got to be the ugliest sounding name I've ever heard. He needs help. Thanks for sharing D.
